CELPIP Writing format in 2026
The current official CELPIP Test Format lists the Writing component at 53 minutes. It contains exactly two scored task types: Task 1: Writing an Email and Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions. Practice should therefore train both task purposes instead of treating CELPIP Writing as one generic essay exercise.

What CELPIP Writing raters evaluate
CELPIP publishes four Writing performance-standard categories. These are more useful for review than unofficial percentage formulas because the official page describes factors within each category rather than publishing a simple fixed weighting formula.
Content/Coherence
Number and quality of ideas, organization, examples, and supporting details.
Vocabulary
Word choice, suitable use, range, precision, and accuracy.
Readability
Format and paragraphing, connectors and transitions, grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation.
Task Fulfillment
Relevance, completeness, tone, and length appropriate to the task.
A better way to practise CELPIP Writing
1. Plan before typing. Identify the audience, purpose, required points, and the two or three ideas you can develop clearly. CELPIP's own preparation guidance recommends organizing your response before writing.
2. Write under realistic computer conditions. The official test is fully computer-delivered, so typing speed, editing, paragraph control, and time awareness should be part of practice.
3. Review by the four official dimensions. Do not reduce review to grammar corrections. Check whether ideas are sufficiently developed, vocabulary is precise, the response is readable, and the prompt has been completely fulfilled.
4. Keep fresh prompts for verification. Rewriting the same prompt can improve a specific technique, but fresh prompts are better for checking whether the skill transfers to a new situation.
